Trolley with three mass pieces

Trolley with two mass pieces

Trolley with one mass piece

Trolley without mass pieces

Trolley without mass pieces

Click the 'Go' button to start.

Click the 'Graph' button and observe
the net force and acceleration.

Click on the RESET button to repeat the experiment with a different mass.

Do you want to clear all the data and start the experiment again? No Yes

  1. The trolley has a mass of 0,75 kg. Decide whether you want to add more mass to the trolley. If so, drag one or more mass pieces onto the trolley.
  2. Choose the angle of inclination of the horizontal surface. The higher the angle, the larger the net force on the trolley.
  3. Click the GO button to observe the motion of the trolley.
  4. Click the GRAPH button to see where the point representing the movement of the trolley is plotted on an \( a \) versus \( \boldsymbol{F}_\mathrm{net} \) graph.
  5. Repeat the process with the same mass, but a different angle of inclination and therefore a different net force.
  6. When you have five points plotted on the graph, click the LINE button to see the shape of the graph.
  7. Click the GRADIENT button to see what the gradient of the graph is.
  8. Click the RESET button and repeat the experiment with another mass.
  9. Compare the gradients of all the graphs you obtained.
